Granville, Thomas D. Walker, 65, died Monday, November 12, 2012 at his home in Granville.
He was born April 12, 1947 in Albany, NY, the son of George and Marietta (Vanhosen) Walker.
Tom attended the Sherburne Village School and graduated from Woodstock Union High School in 1966. Following his education he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. Tom received numerous awards and citations including the “Purple Heart”. After his discharge from the service he returned to Vermont where he worked as a carpenter in the Woodstock and S. Royalton areas for many years. He later worked as a painter. Tom loved country music and fronted a local band known as” Tom Walker & the Sundowners”. He had even performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. He was also well known for his yodeling. His memberships included both the V.F.W. and the American Legion in Woodstock.
He is survived by his 2 sons; David Walker of Exeter, NH and Troy Walker of San Mateo, CA, a sister Gertrude Harris of Granville and 4 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Daniel Walker.
Graveside memorial services will be held Tuesday, November 27th at 1:00 P.M. in the Church of Our Savior Cemetery on Route 4( just south of the Killington Gondola) in Killington. There are no calling hours.
